Alumni Interview: Göksen Yücel

Göksen Yücel, who graduated with high honors and second place from the Department of Genetics and Bioengineering in 2015, has over eight years of experience in leading pharmaceutical companies.

Having served as a Senior Product Manager in the Metabolism Group at Boehringer Ingelheim Turkey for about two years, Göksen successfully managed launch processes in the field of heart failure, completed preparations for launch in chronic kidney disease, and took on significant responsibilities in the field of diabetes during this period.

Currently, Göksen Yücel, working as an International Senior Product Manager in the global team of Boehringer Ingelheim based in Germany, answered our questions.

Could you talk about your experience at Yeditepe University?

The period I studied in the Genetics and Bioengineering department at Yeditepe University was a time filled with scientific research and laboratory experiences. Especially, the expertise of the faculty and modern laboratory facilities provided an opportunity to combine theoretical knowledge with practical applications.

What were the differences and advantages of being a Yeditepe graduate in your career?

The education I received at Yeditepe University provided many advantages in my career. Particularly, the interdisciplinary approach and practical-oriented education enabled me to be better prepared for the business world in a more equipped and versatile manner.


What do you think was the turning point in your career?

An important turning point in my career was when I took on the role of International Product Manager at the pharmaceutical company where I work. This position provided me with the opportunity to develop product management and marketing strategies from a global perspective,
opening up a new direction in my career.

What advice do you have for students/new graduates on their career journeys?

My advice to students and new graduates is to focus on continuously improving and learning. Being flexible in the ever-changing business world, developing leadership skills, and gaining a global perspective are important. Additionally, establishing networking and mentorship relationships can help advance their careers.

What message would you like to share with our bulletin readers on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of our Republic?

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of our Republic, I would like to emphasize the importance we place on science and technology. We should encourage our youth to embrace science and innovation, and support scientific research and development activities to move our country forward on the global stage.
