Our alumna Meriç Aktaş Ateş, who graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Art Management '03, a Bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts '03, and a Master's degree in Art Management '09, will present the “Genç Buluşmalar” exhibition at the public exhibition space Taksim Sanat from June 13 to July 21, 2024. The exhibition features approximately 80 works by 41 artist candidates from 20 different universities in Turkey.
In a statement to the AA reporter regarding the exhibition organized by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Culture Inc., our alumna mentioned that "Young Encounters" is being held for the second time this year. She said, "It is a great pleasure for me to curate both editions. We had the opportunity to exhibit the show last month at the Artcontact Art Fair and now at Taksim Sanat. We started our journey by engaging with fine arts faculties across Turkey and received valuable support from our esteemed professors. Our professors shared the portfolios of students they valued with us, and we made a selection from them."
Ateş provided the following insights about the exhibition: "Through the exhibition, we get a clear sense of the concerns of the new generation. They place great importance on social values. Every piece of work they produce touches on life in some way. The works in our exhibition address fundamental issues, from climate crisis and environmental concerns to death and social relationships. The young participants find common ground on 'social values' through various sub-disciplines and conceptual frameworks, using different materials. This is the point we value the most."
The "Young Encounters" exhibition will be open for visits until July 21.
